Bathroom Cleaning Tips

Showers, tubs, fixtures and everyday bathroom buildup. Start with the gentlest suitable method, and always check the care instructions.

TIP 01

Remove Shower Soap Scum

01

Use a nonabrasive bathroom cleaner labeled for the shower surface. Give it the stated time to work, scrub gently and rinse.

02

For ordinary glass without a special coating, a manufacturer-approved mineral-deposit remover can help with water spots.

Take careAcidic cleaners can damage natural stone, grout, metals and coatings. Check every surface the cleaner may touch.

TIP 02

Clean and Deodorize a Toilet

01

Apply toilet-bowl cleaner beneath the rim, allow the label contact time and scrub with a toilet brush before flushing.

02

Clean the seat, handle and exterior separately with a compatible cleaner; use a disinfectant when needed, following its wet contact time.

Take careNever combine toilet cleaner with bleach, ammonia or another cleaner. Keep the toilet brush separate from other tools.

TIP 03

Remove Faucet Water Spots

01

Try a damp microfiber cloth first, then buff dry to prevent new spots.

02

If deposits remain, use a mineral remover specifically approved for the faucet finish and rinse promptly.

Take careAvoid prolonged vinegar soaks on plated or specialty finishes. Follow the fixture maker’s care directions.

TIP 04

Clean a Bathtub Without Scratches

01

Use a soft sponge and a tub-safe liquid cleaner for the regular bath ring. Rinse and dry afterward.

02

For stubborn residue, let the compatible cleaner sit for the time on its label before gently scrubbing again.

Take careAcrylic and fiberglass scratch easily. Skip abrasive powders, stiff brushes and melamine pads unless approved.

TIP 05

Clean Bathroom Grout

01

Brush grout gently with a nylon brush and a pH-neutral tile cleaner, then rinse away loosened soil.

02

For lingering discoloration, choose a grout-compatible product and follow its directions; resealing may help if the grout requires it.

Take careDo not use acidic cleaners on cement grout or natural stone. Crumbling grout needs repair.

TIP 06

Keep Shower Buildup Under Control

01

After bathing, use a squeegee on shower glass and a separate cloth to dry fixtures.

02

Wash removable shower curtains or liners according to their labels and run the exhaust fan to help surfaces dry.

Take careA recurring musty smell or returning mold may point to a leak or ventilation problem.
